About the destination

China is a country rich in history and culture. It is also a country where you can find several types of lifestyle. In the big cities such as Beijing, there is a wonderful mix of tradition and western modernity while in the regions, it is rather a rural lifestyle that is dominant.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) recommends that you consult a travel health clinic at least six weeks before your departure. The following vaccines are recommended: Japanese encephalitis, tick-borne encephalitis, yellow fever, influenza, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, polio, rabies and measles. Please note that two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are required to fly from Canada and to cross the United States border.

The official language of China is Mandarin. However, there are several dialects spoken in different parts of the country. Outside the major cities, it is difficult to get service in English. That’s why it is a good idea to have an English-Mandarin dictionary or a translation application at hand.

In China, the official currency is the Yuan ¥ (CNY).  It is possible to use bank cards in some places and Visa or MasterCard credit cards are accepted in most businesses. Don’t forget to communicate the dates of your stay in China to your financial institution.

Your passport must be valid at least 6 months after you enter China.
