There are two official currencies in Cuba, the Cuban peso (CUP) and the Cuban convertible peso (CUC). The latter has no value outside the country as it is a currency that was originally introduced to alleviate an economic crisis in Cuba. The Canadian dollar (CAD) can only be exchanged for the Cuban peso (CUP). It is therefore advisable to trade with the Cuban peso to avoid conversion problems with your remaining currency once back in Canada. Be sure to notify your financial institution before you leave to avoid a hold on your funds.
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) recommends that you consult a health professional to discuss vaccinations against the following diseases: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, cholera and rabies. Note that two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are required for flights from Canada and for crossing the land border with the United States.
To travel to Cuba, your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay.
