Currency

The local currency is the Jamaican dollar (JMD), but it is possible to buy with the American dollar. However, it is advisable to bargain with the local currency, as the locals will give you the exchange in Jamaican dollars. Be sure to notify your financial institution before you leave, so that they do not place a hold on your money.

Health

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) recommends that you consult a health specialist to discuss vaccinations against the following diseases: yellow fever, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid and Zika virus. Please note that two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are required to fly from Canada and to cross the land border with the United States.

Things to do in Ocho Rios

Mystic Mountain

Located in the heart of Ocho Rios and only 5 minutes from Dunn’s River Falls, this mountain will give you unforgettable memories. Take an adventure through the rainforest to the 700 foot Mystic Mountain. Enjoy the rich ecosystem, the streams, or the breathtaking views. The mountain offers 3 tours: Sky Explorer – at the entrance to the park, the Rainforest SkyExplorer is a chairlift that sends explorers over the treetops to 700 feet atop Mystic Mountain. Jamaica – the park’s main attraction, the Rainforest Bobsled Jamaica offers a 1,000-foot gravity ride through the forest. Finally, the Zip-line – a zip line through the rainforest.

Dunn Falls

Explore Jamaica’s most famous waterfalls near Ocho Rios on the north coast. The Dunn Falls are 55 meters high and flow into the Caribbean Sea, making it unique in this region. Considered one of Jamaica’s national treasures, you won’t want to miss this natural beauty! Don’t forget to bring your shoes if you want to venture into these falls.
