Let yourself be rocked by the reggae and the gentle waves of the Caribbean Sea. Jamaica is known for having some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Plus, it’s a great family destination with various hotel chains offering facilities for children of all ages.

Currency

The local currency is the Jamaican dollar (JMD), but it is possible to buy with the American dollar. However, it is advisable to bargain with the local currency, as the locals will give you the exchange in Jamaican dollars. Be sure to notify your financial institution before you leave, so that they do not place a hold on your money.

Passports

To travel to Jamaica, your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay.

Health

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) recommends that you consult a health specialist to discuss vaccinations against the following diseases: yellow fever, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid and Zika virus. Please note that two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are required to fly from Canada and to cross the land border with the United States.

Language

The official language of the country is English, but Jamaicans speak many type of Jamaican Creole. The most commonly used languages are: English, Spanish and Creole.
