  • WHAT IS TRAVEL INSURANCE?

Travel insurance is protection which ensures that you’re assisted in the event of accident, disease, or other unexpected events when abroad. There are a number of types of protection, the most popular being trip cancellation or interruption insurance, luggage insurance, and health insurance.

Don’t hesitate to ask your travel advisor for more information in order to choose the coverage that best suits your needs.

  • IS TRAVEL INSURANCE MANDATORY?

Travel insurance is not mandatory but is strongly recommended. You can confirm the coverage you have with your personal insurance policies or credit cards. If you don’t have insurance or wish to upgrade your coverage, Voyages Laurier Du Vallon can advise you and provide a quote according to your needs.

  • HOW CAN I PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE?

You can request a quote online, but your travel advisor will proceed with the final transaction of your insurance contract. You can also request a quote directly through your travel advisor.

  • THE USEFULNESS OF TRAVEL INSURANCE

Travel insurance is required to cover you in the event of a trip cancellation or interruption, depending on the protection selected. It can also cover costs related to lost or damaged luggage, again depending on the protection package you choose. Finally, travel medical insurance is an option that could cover some or all expenses related to an injury or health problem that emerges at your destination and was not detected before your departure.

  • WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE COVERED FOR TRIP CANCELLATIONS AND INTERRUPTIONS?

A trip cancellation is defined as an event that occurs prior to departure and that results in the trip no longer being able to take place. For example, if you learn that you have a new medical condition which prevents you from traveling and was undetected prior to the insurance being purchased, you could be compensated partially or in full according to the coverage you have chosen.

Trip interruption, for its part, is defined as an event that occurs while you’re at your destination and that forces you to return home earlier than planned. For example, if a member of your family should die while you’re abroad, your travel insurance may cover the cost of your early return home, depending as always on the coverage chosen.

  • WHAT IS A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION?

A pre-existing illness or condition is an ailment or affliction that is already known at the time the insurance is purchased or when the contract comes into effect.

Generally, travel insurance contracts do not cover expenses incurred resulting from a pre-existing condition which was unstable for a certain number of months (normally three to six months) before departure. Please note that the definition of the term “stable” may vary from one contract to another. Please consult your insurer for more information.

  • INSURANCE COVERAGE IN CASE OF A ROAD ACCIDENT

All Quebecers are covered by Quebec’s public automobile insurance plan which is administered by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).

Please note that you’re covered worldwide in the event of injuries or death resulting from a traffic accident. For more information about insurance coverage provided by this public plan, don’t hesitate to contact the SAAQ.
