Language

Canada’s official languages are English and French. English is the main language used in all provinces except Quebec, where French is the official language. New Brunswick is the only officially bilingual province in the country. Although English is the dominant language, there are several French-speaking communities across Canada.

Things to do in St-John's

Cape Spear Lighthouse National Park

On the easternmost tip of the country is the Cape Spear lighthouse. It is also the oldest lighthouse in Newfoundland and Labrador. On this site, it is possible to observe icebergs, whales and seabirds depending on the season.

Signal Hill National Historic Site

Signal Hill is an important historical site for St-John’s and Canada. It was here that the very first wireless signal between Europe and North America was received in 1901. Signal Hill was also a very important military base between the 1600’s and World War II. This historic site will also appeal to outdoor enthusiasts with its hiking trails and beautiful views.
