Currency

The official currency of the country is the Dominican Peso (DOP). US dollars and credit and debit cards are also accepted in tourist centers. Do not forget to give the dates of your stay in the Dominican Republic to your bank if you plan to use your cards at your destination.

Health

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) recommends to consult a health professional to discuss vaccinations against the following diseases: typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B and cholera. Please note that two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are required to fly from Canada and to cross the United States border.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of your arrival in the Dominican Republic.

Language

The official language of the Dominican Republic is Spanish, but in the tourist areas, most people can also communicate with you in English. Before you leave, learn a few words and phrases in the local language. You’ll impress the locals!
