Renowned for the festive atmosphere that rules there, Negril is a popular destination for tourists. Recognized also for its sites of divings, its kilometers of beaches along bays and with calm and turquoise waters, it will know how to charm you.

Currency

The local currency is the Jamaican dollar (JMD), but it is possible to buy with the American dollar. However, it is advisable to bargain with the local currency, as the locals will give you the exchange in Jamaican dollars. Be sure to notify your financial institution before you leave, so that they do not place a hold on your money.

Health

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) recommends that you consult a health specialist to discuss vaccinations against the following diseases: yellow fever, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid and Zika virus. Please note that two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are required to fly from Canada and to cross the land border with the United States.

Language

The official language of the country is English, but Jamaicans speak many type of Jamaican Creole. The most commonly used languages are: English, Spanish and Creole.

Rick’s Cafe

Perched on a cliff, Rich’s Cafe attracts adrenaline seekers. Jump off the cliffs into the turquoise waters or simply enjoy a local drink while watching the beautiful sunset. At night, let the reggae music and party atmosphere take you away. Fun guaranteed!

Seven Mile Beach

This paradise spread over 20 lush acres is everything you’d expect from a tropical beach. With its blue waters and beautiful white sand, this beach in the resort town of Negril makes it a beautiful place to be in winter as well as in summer. If you want to go diving, you will find the most beautiful dive sites on the side of Ocho Rios!

Lucéa

Located about 20 minutes drive from Negril, the village of Lucéa is one of the must-see attractions in the area. No matter what day you visit Lucéa, with the exception of Sunday which is considered a healthy day in Jamaica, you can mingle with the bustling world of the busy streets from dawn to dusk. The streets of the village are alive with bars, churches, stores and the iconic cupola tower.
